Roshkowska Galleries presents an exhibition of works by Polish -American artist Jerzy Kubina. The exhibition opens July 4 and runs through July 31. Jerzy Kubina describes his art as the “Ceaseless observation of the constantly changing reality that surrounds me, and provokes a struggle for a new quality of expression. A genuine creative process is fundamental to my exploration. My artistic efforts are an attempt to express my reflections on spiritual and existential values.”
Mr Kubina graduated graduated “Magna Cum Laude” from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Poland, Department of Painting, under individual instruction of Prof. Jan Szancenbach. A selection of his most recent exhibitions includes BWA Zamosc, Zamosc, Poland; Museum Convento de Carmen Guadalajara, Mexico; Real Art Ways Gallery, Hartford, CT, and 80 Washington Square East Galleries, New York, NY.
Mr. Kubina was born in the beautiful Renaissance town of Zamosc, Poland. He studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Krakow, the oldest and most prestigious art university in Poland. During those early years, he was already sensitive to the influence of expressionist masters, especially Dutch American abstract expressionist artist Willem de Kooning.
In December 1989, Kubina is part of the very extravagant opening of the famous Prisunic Gallery, one of the pioneering galleries, which found a home in New York City’s old Meat Market. This exposure puts him inline for a memorable year in Paris under the tutelage of the Prisunic Gallery owners. But after a year filled with excitement and partying, the fun wears out and Kubina returns to New York City in search for more meaning and a new direction.
He uses silk for canvas in most of his work, combining dry pigments oxidation paint, shellac, wax, and other mixed media, mostly born from Mother Earth. His colors are very expressive of his fascination with Gaia. The browns that bleed their “rusty elements” into the turquoise greens provoke an undeniable sense of belonging and yearning at the same time.
Come and join us in the opening reception to see Mr Kubina’s inspiring artwork, and discuss his unique technique, and approach to creativity in art at our gallery, located at 538 Warren Street in Hudson, NY.
