Closing Antique Underground
Hudson is losing one of it's recent antique stores, Antique Underground, at 711 Warren Street. The reason for the closing has nothing to do with business. Owners Bruce Block and Parry Yohannan just have other things to do.
"I travel extensively " says Bruce. "I want to do that while I'm young enough to enjoy it" Bruce takes groups with him and he has just recently returned from Myanmar. He has a French river cruise with days in Paris and 4 days in Barcelona planned. There is also a Nepal trip with Tibet and Bhutan.
"Hudson is a fun town and we've enjoyed it. The people are great, there's wonderful food and the Antique Dealers have top notch antiques. " The store is full of Mid-Centiry Modern, Industrial Furniture, and objects of all kinds.
Bruce is a mid-century ceramics expert. He has worked for the Waylande Gregory Estate and stocks the largest assortment of his wares to be found anywhere. He also has close ties to Rose Cabat, probably the last of the great potters from the 50"s. She has a major show at the Tucson Art Museum celebrating her 100 Birthday. He also stocks Edwin Scheier. He carries several of todays best potters. There's also a great selection of ethnic jewelry from around the world. In the short time the store was in Hudson it developed a following. "It's surprising how many people have come in to say they'll miss us" says Bruce. The sale is until the end of April and prices are up to 70% off. Drop by and say goodbye. Hours are Thurs. to Sunday 11-6.
