Skalar Modern features mostly European and some American mid-century and contemporary furniture, lighting, and decorative accessories. The store has a unique collection of pieces by iconic modernist French, Italian, German and lesser-known designers such as: Boris Lacroix, Mathieu Mategot, and Pierre Paulin and firms such as Arredoluce, Atremide, and Knoll. Skalar founders Jarek Barglowski and Danusia Jarecka opened their first store in Warsaw, Poland, relocating to Hudson, New York in 2005.

In Memoriam

Jarek

1st Dibs, which hosts online shops for about a dozen of Hudson’s antiques dealers, published a moving tribute this week to Jaroslaw (Jarek) Barglowski—the co-founder of Skalar Modern, who passed away this Fall. Click here to read the article, which includes remembrances from Jennifer Arenskjold, Mark McDonald, and Alfons Sutter. As noted in the memorial, Skalar remains open under the direction of co-founder Danusia Jarecka.
