GALERIE GRIS / LISA CORINNE DAVIS
SEPTEMBER 1ST – OCTOBER 8TH, 2017
ARTIST’S RECEPTION SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Galerie Gris is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Lisa Corinne Davis.
Occupying a point somewhere between abstraction and figuration, cartooning and cartography, Davis’s paintings explore themes of racial, social and psychological identity. Her carefully articulated images are oddly familiar, but essentially ephemeral, visually resonant but also deliberately enigmatic so as to elude any fixed meaning. Davis is the recipient of numerous awards including, the NEA, NYFA and Tiffany Foundation grants and is a
contributor to the Brooklyn Rail and Art Critical. She serves as Professor of Art at Hunter College in New York.
