Rosalind Shaffer & Tony Thomposon
Saturday May 3, 2014 from 6 to 8pm Meditations on Spring, Rosalind Shaffer's new collection of ceramic works is a dazzling show of mastery and imagination. Garbed in raiments that evoke forms found in nature, meditative figures exude quiescence and inspire repose. Vases and vessels are collared in organically-shaped frills, or glazed with delicate soft-white or celadon that reflects the new-born coloration of the season. Like Spring itself, this ethereal collection of works is bliss manifested.
Elisions brings together works by Tony Thompson is disparate media that are completely reflective. Two landscapes turned on their sides drift into one another linked by their substrate and a shared, cloudy sky. Oriental carpets leak colors from their warps and wefts forming bright or patterned "spills". The collection visually quotes Aristotle ("the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"_, underscores the mysterious quality of creative experiences, and describes artists as alchemists.
